Gutter Replacement in Downers Grove & the Western Suburbs

Your gutters are your foundation's first line of defense. When they fail, the water has to go somewhere — and it usually ends up against your basement.

Most basement water problems don't start in the basement. They start at the roofline. When gutters clog, sag, or leak, hundreds of gallons of roof runoff spill straight down against your foundation — the exact place you least want it. Accu-Dry has protected homes across Downers Grove and the western suburbs since 1990, and we replace and repair gutters as part of a complete approach to keeping water away from your foundation. Family-owned, 5-star rated, and BBB-accredited, we treat your gutters as what they really are: a drainage system, not just trim. Every drop of that runoff is meant to travel through your gutters and downspouts and exit several feet from the house — and in DuPage County's heavy clay soil, which already drains slowly, a failed gutter system can turn an ordinary rainstorm into a foundation problem.

Signs You Need Gutter Replacement

  • Gutters pulling away from the fascia or visibly sagging between hangers

  • Water overflowing the gutters during rain — especially at corners and seams

  • Rust, holes, or split seams on older sectional aluminum gutters

  • Downspouts that discharge right at the foundation instead of several feet away

  • Peeling paint, rotted fascia, or dark streaking on the exterior below the gutters

  • Basement water problems that flare up in step with heavy rain — often a gutter issue, not a foundation defect

  • • Gutters that were never sized or pitched correctly and have never drained well

How Failing Gutters Cause Basement Water

This is the connection most homeowners miss. Your foundation waterproofing, drain tile, and sump pump all manage water that has already reached the foundation. Gutters are supposed to stop a large share of that water from ever getting there. When gutters overflow or dump at the base of the house:

  • The soil against the foundation stays saturated, raising hydrostatic pressure against the walls and floor.

  • Water finds cracks, the cove joint, and window wells — the same entry points we address in our basement waterproofing and window well work.

  • Constant overflow erodes grading and can rot the sill plate and fascia over time.

Fixing the gutters is often the cheapest, highest-leverage step in solving a recurring basement water problem. We frequently recommend it alongside — or before — a larger waterproofing system.

What We Install

Seamless Aluminum Gutters

Our standard replacement. Formed on-site to the exact length of each run, seamless gutters eliminate the leak-prone joints that fail first on older sectional systems. Available in 5-inch and oversized 6-inch profiles for roofs that shed high volume.

Properly Sized Downspouts & Extensions

We size downspouts to the roof area they serve and extend every discharge point well away from the foundation. This single detail resolves a large share of the basement water calls we get.

Gutter Guards

Optional leaf and debris protection that keeps the system flowing through DuPage County's heavy fall leaf drop, reducing the overflow that saturates foundation soil.

Fascia & Soffit Repair

Where overflow has already rotted the wood behind the gutter, we repair or replace it so the new system mounts to a solid, sound edge.

What to Expect

  1. Free inspection: We assess the full gutter system, downspout placement, grading, and any related basement water entry — because gutters are usually one part of a bigger water picture.

  2. Written estimate: You receive a detailed, itemized quote priced by linear footage and stories. No ranges, no surprises.

  3. Installation: Our own crew removes the old system, repairs any rotted fascia, and installs seamless gutters, downspouts, and extensions — most homes in a single day.

  4. Final walkthrough: We confirm proper pitch and flow, show you where water now discharges, and make sure runoff lands well clear of your foundation.

They didn't do any work because they didn't need to, and I appreciate that they were honest about it after evaluating our situation (more of a gutter than basement issue). Two other companies gave me quotes--one of them whose name starts with a “P” was for an exorbitantly expensive interior drainage system and new sump pump. That company's assessment of where water was coming in was the opposite of what Accu-Dry and the second company told me, not to mention basic logic. Accu-Dry will be my first call if we ever end up having a real basement issue.

Very good experience. They are extremely polite and easy to work with. Setting the appointment through having the work done could not have been better. Very satisfied with this company, the decision to go with them, and the quality of their service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will replacing my gutters fix my basement water problem?

Sometimes on its own, and almost always as part of the solution. If overflowing or poorly draining gutters are saturating the soil against your foundation, redirecting that water often reduces or eliminates seepage. If you also have foundation cracks or a high water table, gutters are one important piece alongside interior drainage. After the free inspection, we tell you honestly which situation you're in.

Seamless or sectional gutters — does it matter?

Yes. Sectional gutters have joints every few feet, and those seams are where leaks and separations start. Seamless gutters are formed on-site as continuous runs with joints only at corners and downspouts, so there is far less to fail. For the Midwest's freeze-thaw winters and heavy rain, seamless is the more durable choice.

How far should downspouts drain from the house?

As a rule of thumb, at least four to six feet from the foundation, onto grade that slopes away from the house. Downspouts that dump at the base of the wall are one of the most common — and most fixable — causes of basement water we see.

Do gutter guards eliminate the need for cleaning?

They dramatically reduce it. In DuPage County, with mature oak, maple, and elm trees, guards keep the system flowing during heavy fall leaf drop and prevent the overflow that saturates foundation soil. They reduce maintenance rather than remove it entirely.

How much does gutter replacement cost?

Gutter replacement is priced by total linear footage, the gutter profile, and the number of stories. Most whole-home replacements are completed in a single day. We provide a written, itemized estimate after a free inspection — no obligation.
